The Test That Won't Come Back "Normal"

If you've ever left another appointment hearing the words, "Everything looks normal," while knowing in your heart something still isn't right with your child, you're not alone.

We hear it from parents all the time.

"Her labs came back normal."

"We've tried the supplements, but nothing really changed."

"We finally have a diagnosis, but we still don't have answers."

If your child is struggling, the goal isn't to keep collecting "normal" test results. It's to make sure you're looking at the right system.

That's exactly why we use Neurological INSiGHT Scans at Inspire Life Chiropractic.

Why the Nervous System Is the Missing Piece

Most traditional tests like bloodwork, MRIs, and EEGs are designed to detect disease, injury, or obvious structural problems. They play an incredibly important role in healthcare, but they aren't designed to measure how well your child's nervous system is functioning from day to day. And that's a significant piece of the puzzle because the nervous system is coordinating nearly everything else happening inside the body.

Think of it as your child's command center. The nervous system is made up of three major components: sensory, autonomic, and motor. Together, they help coordinate movement, regulate internal organs, and influence how your child responds to the world around them. As Dr. Bruce Lipton has described, the nervous system's job is to gather information from the environment and direct how every other cell in the body responds.

The autonomic, or "automatic," nervous system is responsible for many of the things we rarely think about until they're not working well. Eating. Sleeping. Digesting. Moving. It's constantly working behind the scenes to help your child's body adapt and regulate.

So when we assess your child's nervous system, we're asking a different question than most traditional testing:

How well is your child's body adapting and communicating?

Many families who walk through our doors have already invested so much into helping their child. Occupational therapy. Speech therapy. Physical therapy. Nutrition changes. Gut health protocols. Supplements. Those can all be valuable pieces of a child's care.

But often, no one has evaluated the nervous system that's coordinating all of those other systems.

What Makes INSiGHT Scans Different

At Inspire Life Chiropractic, every practice member receives Neurological INSiGHT Scans during their initial visit. We also repeat those scans throughout care, typically every 12 adjustments, so we can objectively measure how the nervous system is changing over time.

These scans aren't designed to diagnose disease or scare families into saying "yes" to care. They're one of the most valuable tools we have to better understand how your child's nervous system is functioning and where stress may be affecting their ability to regulate.

That information can be especially helpful for children experiencing challenges like:

  • Digestive struggles

  • Colic

  • Chronic ear infections

  • ADHD-related challenges

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • And many other concerns

The scans evaluate both sides of the nervous system's communication.

Sensory nerves are constantly sending information to the brain about what's happening inside and outside the body. Motor nerves send messages back out, helping the body respond, adapt, and function the way it was designed to.

When that communication becomes overwhelmed by stress, patterns associated with subluxation and dysautonomia can develop. Instead of the nervous system adapting efficiently, we often see increased tension, decreased adaptability, and less organized communication throughout the body.

One reason this matters so much is because a child's brain develops at an incredible pace. It doubles in size during the first year of life alone and continues rapidly developing throughout childhood.

Understanding how that developing nervous system is functioning gives us valuable insight into how your child's body is adapting during some of the most important years of growth.

The Three Scans, in Plain Language

We use three INSiGHT Scans together to provide a comprehensive look at nervous system function.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Scan
This is the first scan we perform. It measures adaptability, or how well your child's nervous system responds to everyday stress.

Whether it's fighting off a cold, recovering from a bump on the playground, managing big emotions, or transitioning through changes in routine, adaptability plays a huge role in how children function each day.

When HRV is lower, we often see children who have a harder time bouncing back from physical, emotional, or environmental stressors. As the nervous system becomes more regulated through care, we hope to see improvements reflected in this scan over time.

NeuroThermal Scan
Next, we look at the autonomic nervous system with our NeuroThermal Scan. This scan measures patterns of stress and tension that may be affecting your child's ability to regulate digestion, sleep, immune function, hormone balance, and other automatic body processes. It often helps us better understand concerns like colic, reflux, constipation, recurring ear infections, allergies, and sleep challenges.

NeuroSpinal EMG Scan
Finally, the NeuroSpinal EMG Scan evaluates muscle tone and tension along the spine, giving us insight into how much stress the nervous system is carrying. It's especially valuable for children navigating autism, sensory processing challenges, ADHD, anxiety, and other neurological concerns because it helps us understand how efficiently their nervous system is communicating.

In some children, we see patterns that suggest the body is stuck in a constant fight-or-flight response. Others may show patterns associated with decreased adaptability or poor coordination, while some experience a combination of both. These findings help us create care plans that are specific to each child's nervous system.

Together, these three scans provide both our doctors and your family with an objective window into nervous system function. Rather than simply guessing based on symptoms, we're able to measure patterns, monitor progress, and make informed decisions throughout care.

You Deserve Answers, Not Just Reassurance

If you've been told over and over that your child will "grow out of it," but your gut tells you something still isn't adding up, don't ignore that feeling.

Parents know their children better than anyone.

Many of the challenges we see in older children, including anxiety, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and emotional dysregulation, often have roots in nervous system stress that began much earlier. Colic, feeding difficulties, sleep struggles, and sensory concerns aren't always unrelated problems. Sometimes they're different chapters of the same story.

That doesn't mean every challenge has the same cause or that one solution fits every child. But it does mean the nervous system deserves to be part of the conversation.

If no one has evaluated how your child's nervous system is functioning, you may still be missing an important piece of the puzzle.

You don't have to keep collecting normal test results while wondering why your child is still struggling. There is a way to objectively evaluate the system that's coordinating everything else, and for many families, it helps connect the dots in a way nothing else has.
